Mona and Sujan’s Longboat Key engagement session had two moods and two outfits, and a road between them. On one side, Bayfront Park gave us palms, open lawn and soft white cotton. Across Gulf of Mexico Drive, the beach gave us the kind of turquoise water people assume is edited. It isn’t. That’s just Longboat Key on a clear day.
Bayfront Park, Longboat Key
We started in the park. Mona was in a white sundress and Sujan in a beige polo, neutral tones that let the greens of the palms and grass do the work. I like starting a session with something close and simple, so the first frames are a hug from behind with both of them laughing at the camera. Then I moved them nearer. Foreheads touching, her hand flat on his chest so the ring catches the light, his watch and her bracelet side by side. Those details end up framed on mantels. Once they were comfortable, I let them walk and talk, and the laughing frames came on their own.

The Gulf Side of Longboat Key
For the second look, Mona changed into a blue floral maxi dress and Sujan into a white shirt and khakis. Against white sand and pale water, that blue looked like it belonged there. We started side by side, then walked into the surf holding hands with the water up to their ankles. I asked Sujan to spin her, and the black and white frame of her dress flaring out is the one I’d frame first. By the end they were splashing each other, and I stopped directing completely.

Planning a Bayfront Park Engagement Session
Bayfront Park, at 4052 Gulf of Mexico Drive, is one of my favorite two-for-one locations near Sarasota. The park sits on Sarasota Bay, and the town’s public beach access is right across the street, so you get a garden look and a beach look without getting back in the car.
- Hours: the park is open 5 a.m. to 11 p.m., which leaves plenty of room for sunrise or sunset sessions.
- Parking: the lot is free, with about 60 spaces plus a small daytime overflow lot. January through March is peak season, so arrive a little early.
- Two outfits: bring something soft and neutral for the lawn and something with color for the beach. Mona’s blue floral against the Gulf is exactly why.
- Know the rules: alcohol isn’t allowed in the park without permission, so save the champagne pop for another spot. Dogs aren’t allowed in the main park area either.
- Expect sand and water: if you’re open to wading in, plan for bare feet and a towel in the car. Some of the best frames come from not caring about a wet hem.

FAQ
Can you do engagement photos on Longboat Key beaches?
Yes. Bayfront Park pairs a public park with a beach access across the street, so we can do a lawn-and-palms look and a beach look in one session.
What should we wear for a beach engagement session?
Light, flowing fabrics in soft or saturated colors, like blues, blush, white or sage. Avoid neon and tight patterns. Bring sandals you can kick off easily.
Do you photograph engagement sessions in Sarasota and Manatee County?
Yes. I’m based in Tampa Bay and photograph sessions from Tampa down to Sarasota, Longboat Key and beyond.
Mona and Sujan, thank you for jumping in, literally. If you’re dreaming of a beach engagement session or a Florida wedding, check my availability.
